INTRAPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS ON LEARNING MATH
Abstract
Teaching and learning process is essentially a communication process, therefore communication becomes an important key in the smooth process of teaching and learning in schools, especially between teachers and students. Communication skills will support an educator in delivering the subject matter so that the communication process can run effectively thus the subject matter can be accepted and understood by the students. This research was conducted to find out the interpersonal communication skills that mathematics teacher had in delivering the subject matter to the students in Pringsewu District. Interpersonal communication skills are reviewed based on seven indicators proposed by DeVito namely; openness, empathy, positive attitude, unity, interaction management, expression power, and orientation to others. This research is a quantitative research. The total education unit in Pringsewu Regency is 157 with details of junior high school equal to 91 unit, SMA equal to 34 and SMK 32 unit. This Research sample was 10 mathematics teachers SMP, 8 high school math teachers and 7 teachers of SMK mathematics. The interpersonal communication skills of the math teacher are in the lowest empathy indicator, while the expression power indicator is the lowest among the other indicators.
